Firstly, I love the author’s name.

Um! Mmm! The theme and writing is appropriate for Year 3. On page 4 the illustration cuts off some of the text. At first I thought this was a realistic fiction book, but things go a little weird in Chapter 7. I am not really sure what happened there.

I thought the book was about detectives, then magic, and then throwing a contest. The boy worked hard at learning all his spelling words and then winning was seen as selfish? I disagree with that.

This book, published by Little Simon, is disappointing. Where was the editor?
