I love school when :

166. I show a bad test result to a teacher, and instead of getting angry, he asks, ‘How are you going to get a better mark next time?’ (Thinking about thinking is strange, but I feel more in control.)

167. The bell rings, and I realise it is the lunch bell, not the recess one.  Woah! Time is flying.  There is only one more session of work before the end of school.

168. The teacher forgets to collect the homework. (When I have forgotten to do it.) This is a miracle.  Kids who don’t do their homework usually have timeout on the bench at lunchtime.

169.  The teacher is late to class.  We talk, too loudly and spend time milling around the room, nowhere near our seats.

170 . It is the Sport Carnival day and because all the teachers are busy, a few of us wander around doing as we want. We move between different faction bays, talking with our friends.  We sneak out of the bays and spend time around the spectators. There is even a small creek that we are able to check out.  Actually, the only place we don’t want to be is where we are supposed to be – in the faction bays. Life is good.  A few of the younger kids have brought in sweets, which they give to us when we ask.  One year, I even bought some sweets at the canteen, which was out of bounds for students.
