I love school when :

136. You have to read something at the assembly and are nervous, but the teacher says, ‘You are a good reader. Besides, I’ll be just near you and I’ll help if you want.’ When the moment of the big announcement arrives I muck up big time. I am laughing nervously. The teacher smiles. Some of my friends tease me lightheartedly. And, and, and… I can’t wait to do it again next week.

137. It is open night and my work hangs in the doorway. It will be the first thing that anyone will see when they enter the class.  The teacher said, ‘When they see that work, their expectations will be lifted.  They will think, ‘Oh my gosh!  What kind of class is this?  Wow!”

138. Everyone has to help clean the class. Suddenly the teacher tells us we can all go, except these people. And he names some kids who weren’t helping out. (Today I am not named – phew!)

139. There is an electric pencil sharpener. I love the whirring sound. I love not having to twist my hand around. I love the sharp point on the pencil. I remember back to Year 2 when one of the girls stuck her finger into an electric pencil sharpener, which was revolting!

140. I call out to a teacher who is breaking the school rule of ‘running down the corridor’, and he grins back at me.  I love school!
